Michael Strong, D.M.D.

Dr Strong was born in Charleston, SC. After graduating from Hanahan High School as President of the student body and Saludatorian, he pursued his lifelong love of education and knowledge in various fields of interest. After graduating from The University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, he served in the Navy as a submarine officer, qualified ship's engineer, ship's Diving Officer, Reactor Control Officer, Main Propulsion Assistant, and Battlestations Officer of the Deck. Dr Strong made seven strategic deterrent patrols in many oceans of the world. Upon leaving the "Boats", he served as the Nuclear Director of the Fleet Ballistic Missile Training Center in Charleston. During his Naval service, he continued his studies in Biology, Chemistry, and nuclear engineering at various Universities during weekends and at night. After eight years, he left the service, took a position with Life Cycle Engineering as a consulting engineer and began his dental education at MUSC in preparation for a dramatic career change. He graduated with Honors at the top of his class.

  • University of Colorado - 2 years - NROTC scholarship - studied Mechanical Engineering

  • U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School - 1 year - Qualified Submarine Nuclear Engineer

To stay on top of his field, Dr. Strong completes hundreds of hours of postgraduate dental and orthodontic education every year, studying with the best dentists and specialists in the world. Dr. Strong mentors students from local universities who are considering the field of dentistry as well as dental students from MUSC.

Dr. Strong enjoys life with Elaine--his wife of 40 years, Fly-fishing, hunting, photography, travel, staying current with his profession, and chasing Mac-- his grandson!
